Matthew 18:21-22

21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”
22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.

Eternal Father, let us understand your word according to your teaching.
Matthew 18: 21-22, teach us and show us a question very about the character of Peter, who was a person with a, somewhat, impulsive character, for him, forgiving a person or a brother 7 times, seemed quite generous. In general, for human beings, forgiveness is the most difficult part of relationships. Forgiving a person who has hurt us or do some kind of harm is only possible with the help and love of God. For this reason, we must take care of our hearts and not fill them with resentment or hatred and that this does not allow us to forgive others. Jesus teaches us that God’s forgiveness is unlimited. To forgive is to forget the offenses committed, not to take revenge and not to hold grudges in the heart.

Jesus teaches us when to grant forgiveness: “Look for yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; And if he repents, forgive him. And if seven times a day I sin against you, and seven times a day I return to you, saying: I repent; forgive him ”, (Luke 17: 3-4)

Let us pray:
Eternal Father, we ask your forgiveness for the times we have hurt you, for the times we have hurt our brothers and sisters. We thank you, for giving us the gift of forgiveness and for allowing us to be forgiven. Praised be your name. Amen.
