Verse & thought for today:

Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

We can find more than 50 verses in the Bible that deal with worrying or anxiety, and all of them point us back to casting our cares upon Him, and His great love for us.

This past week the world has been swept with the images of Aylan Kurdi, 3 years of age, who drowned while trying to get to safety away from Syria with his family.  The heartbreak that has been shown, the risks that these refugees are willing to take, and we ask ourselves – “what can I do?”.  No matter how far away we are, we can pray and we can provide financial support through donations.  We can pray that hearts that are hardened against accepting these refugees will be softened.  We can pray that they be provided safe harbour and refuge.  We can pray for their safety and rescue.  And we can provide support to them.  Most importantly, we can look at those who ask us directly for refuge and support, in our neighbourhood – the neighbour that we can see.  And ask God to soften our hearts towards them.

Let us all strengthen our hearts in prayer and in trusting God that He has control over all these events, and praising him for those that have made it safely and found refuge.
