From the Pastor’s Desk

Dear friends and members

Jesus says: “I am the resurrection and the life.
Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live;
and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.” (John 11: 25-26)

As Rabindranath Tagore says:
“When a flower dies, a seed is born;
when a seed dies, grows up a plant.
And life goes forward – always stronger than death.”

So it was with Jesus.

Probably some of you will use this weekend of Carnival to chill out and to change the daily routine. I wish you a good time.

Lenten Seasons comes. This is always a time of renewal. New things will germinate. That takes its time, nothing grows from today to tomorrow; and the growth itself escapes our possibilities. Each growth comes from God.

What then is our task? We have to clear the ground and facilitate the conditions for growth and change. Old things wither and even fall, but can be transformed into fertilizer for the new.

I believe that God always wants to impress us with wonderful things.

Blessings

Reverend Roland

Get Involved and Participate!

We will be asking for Volunteers to help with the following two events that we have.

Feb 27,2015 3:00pm

We have a group visiting from Pennsylvania, who are interested in meeting and getting to know members of Balboa Union Church.  We invite all friends and members of BUC to join us and bring a dish (finger food) to share with our guests.

Mar 14,2015 10:00 am BUC Annual Picnic

Last year we had the first Annual Picnic to celebrate our 100 year anniversary.  It is our intention to redo the event and make it an annual event for the community.

We are looking for volunteers that can help with:

  1. Organising the Event
  2. Helping on the day – Saturday the 14th of March.

Please speak with Beth Gray for more information.

Monthly Council Meeting

This will be held on Saturday the 21st of February (3rd Saturday of each month).  All members and friends are welcome to join us to listen in to the discussions and get involved with what we are doing in the church.

New Web page

We owe an enormous thanks to Gerry and Grace for all their hard work in 2014, building this from the bottom up and giving us something that we could just finish off.

We also need to thank Jennifer, who donated so much of her professional time to getting the technical side done.

Honorable mention needs to go to Sue for all the photos, including the new done photos which are just spectacular.

And thank you to all who contributed with writing pieces for it, getting back with their Sermons, and the rest of the content.

Finally, thank you to Beth and Christine for making the final effort to finish it off and get it published and viewable for the world to see!
