Lighting the Third Candle of Advent, the candle of “Love”

On Sunday, December 15th, we will be lighting the green candle of “love”. Last Sunday, we lit the Candle of Peace.  Today, we light the Candle of Love. In their old age, God gave to Zechariah and Elizabeth a son called John. John spoke to the people bravely in the desert, denying his own comforts and prepared to die for what he believed. John taught that we should share what we have with others, treat each other kindly and show God’s love. He did this because he cared, he was called, and he wanted all to have an opportunity to repent and find God’s forgiveness.

We count it in mere hours now.
Soon the first pains of labour will be felt.
Soon the Light will shine in the darkness,
soon the baby will be born.
Soon God will once again break into our lives,
coming in a way that is expected yet unusual,
challenging our expectations
and calling us to see life differently.
God of birth, God of light,
in this time of song and prayer and silence,
reawaken in us the awe of Christmas.
As we hear again the story of a young woman and a surprising visitor,
remind us that we are called to respond to you in unexpected ways.
And when we leave this place,
may we be willing to sing praises
for a young woman who said YES
and the birth that we prepare to celebrate.
We pray in the name of the child
who even now is starting to push from the womb,
who would later teach his friends to pray saying
Our Father…

Church’s Eventos

Come and join us on Christmas Eve for our Candlelight service, as we remember a night in WWII, when no lights could be lit and when our Church laid out on the front steps their candles, “lighting up the world”. This is a night in which we each remember that we let our lights shine – that Jesus came to earth so that each of us would be “the light of the earth”.Each Christmas Eve, we spend a moment remembering that star that shone so bright and lead the way for the wise men, and we light our candles to show the way for each of us to follow.

Each Christmas Eve, we joyously sing Carols together, and enjoy the presentations from Hijos del Rey, as they present their acapela harmonies and soloists who lovingly come to present to the King their songs of praise.

Come and join us!
