This Sunday at Balboa Union Church
We would love to have you sing in our Pick Up Choir.
Practice is at 9.30 a.m. on Sunday morning, and will be lead by Irena Sylya.
Come & join the fun!
Special songs & music:
Our children are learning “Jesus Loves Me” in English & Spanish in Sunday School. We will be singing this just before Children’s time every Sunday morning in the service. For those of you who are interested in learning it in Sign Language, here are the signs in American Sign Language: Jesus Loves Me – with Signs
We will be closing our services in the coming weeks with Hymn #664 – Sent Forth by God’s Blessing
We have also asked the children to learn “Welcome to the Family“, as over the next few weeks we will have a number of baptisms of our young congregational members, and will finish the baptism service with this special song.
Fundraising for the purchase of the Land – Building 773
2 Corinthians 9:8, “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.”
We continue our recent fundraising effort to purchase the land under Building 773, across the street from the Church & parsonage. As many of you know, BUC applied in 2000 for the purchase of the land, according to the terms of the Panama Canal treaty, of all three of our buildings: the church, the parsonage and building 773. In 2012, thanks to the efforts of past and current members, the purchase of the land under the church and parsonage was finalised, and we were given title to not only our buildings, but also the land. At this time, we have title to building 773 itself, but we do not own the land under and around it.
We are asking all friends and members to collaborate and assist in any and all ways possible, financially, with their skills and time, so that we can make this purchase also a reality. We ask you to give generously, as you are willing and able.
Please contact Leslie, our church secretary, for details on how you can make donations to this fundraising, or contact one of the Council members for more details if you have any questions.
Volunteers Needed!
We have updated our website to include the code and plugins necessary to publish our entire Church website in Spanish. Beth & Leslie will be working arduously over the coming days & weeks to translate each of the pages into Spanish, so that it is available for our visitors in either English or Spanish, according to their browser settings.
We would appreciate greatly any volunteers that can assist with either:
- translating or
- proof-reading
in Spanish as we progress on this project.
We would also appreciate feedback and constructive suggestions regarding content of the website which should be updated at this time. We appreciate any and all assistance that can be given. For volunteering or simply providing feedback about the website, please write to us at the newsletter email address.

UPDATE ON PASTOR BILL WILBUR (June 23)
JUNE 2016 BACK TO THE PRISON AGAIN… Yes, I am going back to the prison again to see my men after missing five months of meetings.
The last time that I was there in the Renacer prison, I was so sick and weak that I could hardly walk up the hill to the parking lot to leave. One of the guards wanted to know what was going wrong… I really did not know, but I had a feeling that after having gone for over 38 years of meetings, I would not return.“Is this how it will end” I thought?
Over the past five months I have contacted Eduardo, the Christian prisoner who leads the guys in the chapel. The last day that I went to the prison, about ten new men were moved to the Renacer prison from a previous location where they had all become Chrstians. I got to meet with them and share my testimony with them. It was a very good meeting and I said I would see them next week… but I haven’t seen them again.
Now… it is back to the prison again! On Thursday, July 7, Ricardo is going back to the prison with me. We want to let the director know that we are back and to encourage Eduardo and the other men. There are also some political prisoners that I have gotten to know. How are they doing? Are there any new guys? I want to hear their testimonies too. They had prayed intensively while I was in the hospital and so sick.
We were also planning to bring a team of thirteen from South Africa for the following Thursday. They will be staying in the church for 10 days to do ministry in our area. (Next month we will share some of what God does in our midsts). They will be doing ministry with music, singing, drama and testimonies. The first time I brought a team three year ago, we were invited to meet former Gen. Noriega. At this time, he has been diagnosis with a brain tumor and is 80 years old so we are not sure how this will work out.
However, I am not planning to return to my weekly prison meetings on a regular basis until I am more fully recovered. But I do feel well enough to return at this point to contact the men and provide this wonderful opportunity for ministry with this team.
I thank you so much for your prayer support for healing. I have a ways to go for restoration but am feeling stronger so I can speak at many of our services.
