Update on Pastor Bill Wilbur (Thursday, April 7):

I just received an email from Ann. The doctor says that Bill has Guillain-Barre Syndrome. I looked it up and read all about it  on the Mayo Clinic site. One paragraph in particular spoke to me:
“There’s no known cure for Guillain-Barre syndrome, but several treatments can ease symptoms and reduce the duration of the illness. Most people recover from Guillain-Barre syndrome, though some may experience lingering effects from it, such as weakness, numbness or fatigue.”
Well, there may be “no known cure” in medical science—but we have a Master Healer and Prayer!! And with Jesus, all things are indeed possible. Do I hear a rousing AMEN??!!
Please continue to pray for Bill and Ann, and Becky and David. Pray for wisdom for the doctors and the quick efficacy of the treatments.

Visits to Members of the Congregation:

DShepler-001Pastor Shepler, and his wife, Aleta, have spent this week meeting with members of the Congregation to get a feel for the needs of the Church for 2017, and how they can best support us in 2016.
It has been an enriching experience to spend time getting to know them.

773 – Building Updates

The work started three weeks ago on building 773 has been finished, for now.  Our donors made it possible to do the following:
  • strip (chip) off all the paint in the stairs and laundry room (possibly not done for some 20-30 years), applying a new coat of gypsum and sealer, and then repainting it all;
  • installing new flooring in part of the office on the ground floor, including the entrance to the building;
  • installation of a new hot water heater, that is able to supply all of the residences in building 773;
  • painting and renovating one of the apartments in building 773 – in time for Rev. Shepler and his wife Aleta to stay in that apartment.

Fundraising for the purchase of the Land – Building 773

2 Corinthians 9:8, “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.”

We continue our recent fundraising effort to purchase the land under Building 773, across the street from the Church & parsonage.  As many of you know, BUC applied in 2000 for the purchase of the land, according to the terms of the Panama Canal treaty, of all three of our buildings: the church, the parsonage and building 773.  In 2012, thanks to the efforts of past and current members, the purchase of the land under the church and parsonage was finalised, and we were given title to not only our buildings, but also the land. At this time, we have title to building 773 itself, but we do not own the land under and around it.

We are asking all friends and members to collaborate and assist in any and all ways possible, financially, with their skills and time, so that we can make this purchase also a reality.  We ask you to give generously, as you are willing and able.

Please contact Leslie, our church secretary, for details on how you can make donations to this fundraising, or contact one of the Council members for more details if you have any questions.
