Today’s verse & prayer

2 Kings 17: 38-39

38 Do not forget the covenant I have made with you, and do not worship other gods. 39 Rather, worship the LORD your God; it is he who will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies.”

When we think of “fear of the Lord”, what kind of fear do we have or should we have?  The Bible speaks of a reverential fear, a respect for God that allows us to serve God faithfully at all times.  – The ‘FEAR OF THE LORD” is not the kind that never thinks of God WHEN THINGS ARE GOING WELL. – It is not thinking about God only when they are ill or in calamities, rather than in the good times.   Fear of the Lord is reverence at all times in our life, and leaving aside the other “gods” to whom we are drawn and give “true service”.

It’s impossible to serve God and also serve the world, because there will always be a pressing emergency from the world that requires your constant attention.  Rather, it is in each moment of each day, choosing to serve God through every thought, every word and every action.  That each interaction we have with another person, the light and love of Christ can shine through our lives into the world.

We are called to be the light of the world and the salt of the earth!  So let us rejoice in our duty to bring the light to those in darkness.
