From the Pastor´s Desk:

My father was an Aramean perishing close and he went down into Egypt, where he was a stranger … Deuteronomy 26: 5

Dear friends and members of our Balboa Union Church

These days we see many images of people fleeing from their homes.
Nobody goes away voluntarily. Many people embark on dangerous paths. When a father was asked why he exposed himself and his family to this dangerous trip, he answered: Where we lived, only death waited on us.

The history of God with us humans began when God had an eye for Refugees. God sees them. It is easy to see these people as a problem. But God sees them as human beings.
The above-quoted Bible verse forms part of an old Creed. It was quoted on a public holiday, Thanksgiving. People gave thank, because God gave them something to live. Soon we celebrate and remember Thanksgiving. At this moment, we should have a broad horizon and do not forget the plight.
I hope and pray that Europe finds ways and possibilities for all these people. This is the opportunity for a Christian witness.

Kind Regards

Reverend Roland

Families in Urgent need

IMG-20150910-WA0046 We have been alerted by the authorities that yesterday’s rain storm destroyed the homes of 2 families in our area, and they have asked us to assist with food, clothes & blankets.  In particular, we are looking to provide clothes for 6 children, ages 2 – 12 years of age.  IMG-20150910-WA0050Pampers, milk and other basic toiletries would also be readily accepted and needed.  Anyone that is able to donate, please bring your donations urgently to the church.  If you need to drop them off, you may do so to the missions office in the 773 basement, or contact Roland (our pastor) or Betsy (misiones@balboaunionchurch.org) to coordinate these donations.  IMG-20150910-WA0048Every little bit matters.
