In 2018, David is no longer a member of the council, after various years of service. David has been an expat for more than 25 years, residing in Panama for the past decade, although originally from Scotland. While David struggles still with Spanish, he is able to understand and communicate with staff and others.
David, his wife Allys, and their son have been with our Church for a number of years, formally joining Balboa Union Church in 2013. In 2014 David assumed the role of Chair of the Missions Committee, particularly focusing on the monthly visits (every 3rd Sunday of the month) to the Catherine Brown home, while Rev. Roland Schnell and Pastor Luis Veagra focused on the Bridging Families programs. As we also needed a Chair of Finance & Stewardship, David accepted the challenge of both roles. He received considerable assistance from a team of volunteers with the Missions Committee, which made this possible.
In 2015, David was elected President of the council, replacing Beth Gray, where he took over organising our volunteers and Ministry Committee Chairs to fulfill the goals and visions that we have for Balboa Union Church. He was re-elected as President in 2016, and in 2017 stood down as President to provide a space for others to grow into the role. However, he continued to be actively involved in the Council, as co-chair of Membership.
Nevertheless, Balboa Union Church is pleased to have him back in the latter part of 2017 as President of the Council.
