1 Thessalonians 5:18<\/strong><\/p>\n

18 g<\/em>ive thanks in all circumstances<\/em><\/strong>, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I read this morning: \u00a0\"winlose\"<\/p>\n

That’s what it means: \u00abin all circumstances\u00bb. \u00a0ALL circumstances…<\/p>\n

When Paris gets hit with six different attacks on the same evening – we are still to be thankful.\u00a0For better or for worse, we are asked to trust God in all circumstances and still be thankful. \u00a0Grateful for what we do have.<\/p>\n

An immigrant shopkeeper had a son who kept complaining, \u00abDad, I don’t understand how you run this store. You keep your accounts payable in a cigar box. Your accounts receiveable are on a spindle. All your cash is in the register. You never know what your profits are.\u00bb
\nThe old man responded, \u00abWhen I arrived in this land all I owned was the pair of pants I was wearing. Now your sister is an art teacher. Your brother is a doctor. You are a CPA. Your mother and I own a house and a car and this little store. Add that all up and subtract the pants and there is your profit.\u00bb
\nThat was a man with a grateful heart and a thankful life. He’s a good example for all of us — grateful for what he had.<\/p>\n

Doctors have found that gratefulness (gratitude) has positive health benefits. \u00a0If you want to get healthier, give thanks!<\/p>\n

Can just a positive emotion such as gratitude guarantee better health? It may be a dramatic departure from what we’ve been taught about how to get healthier, but the connection between gratitude and health actually goes back a long way.\u00a0\u00abThousands of years of literature talk about the benefits of cultivating gratefulness as a virtue,\u00bb (professor Robert Emmons).\u00a0Throughout history, philosophers and religious leaders have extolled gratitude as a virtue integral to health and well-being.<\/p>\n

New studies in mental health have found that there are positive benefits to gratefulness:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. It’s a stress buster as well as helping you to overcome trauma<\/li>\n
  2. It’s an immune booster<\/li>\n
  3. It improves your physical health – less aches & pains<\/li>\n
  4. Grateful people sleep better!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    And then there are the other benefits:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Gratitude opens the door to new and better relationships<\/li>\n
    2. Gratitude enhances empathy and reduces aggression<\/li>\n
    3. Gratitude improves your self-esteem<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      We all have the ability and opportunity to cultivate gratitude. Simply take a few moments to focus on all that you have \u2013 rather than complain about all the things you think you deserve.\u00a0 Developing an \u201cattitude of gratitude\u201d is one of the simplest ways to improve your satisfaction with life, including your spiritual life! \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      Now thank we all our God,
      \nwith heart and hands and voices,
      \nwho wondrous things has done,
      \nin whom this world rejoices;
      \nwho from our mothers’ arms
      \nhas blessed us on our way
      \nwith countless gifts of love,
      \nand still is ours today.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
