Luke 12: 33-34<\/b><\/p>\n

\n

33<\/strong> Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34\u00a0<\/strong>For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

How Christians should handle wealth and prosperity? \u00a0Chapter 12 includes \u00a0The<\/i> Parable of the Rich Fool:\u00a0<\/i>the man in the parable wanted to build bigger barns to store his wealth rather than share it with others, and yet died before he could enjoy it. \u00a0In the verses leading up to this,\u00a0Jesus\u00a0mentions how even ravens are fed even though they ‘do not sow or reap’ –<\/i> Then Solomon is compared to the glory of lillies. Indeed, God is even concerned to clothe ‘the grass of the field’ \u2013<\/i> so why should people worry too much about such things?<\/p>\n

Christians must be free of a materialistic, ‘getting’ approach to life! I have to say that modern western Christians \u2013 in the main \u2013 have become very materialistic, influenced by the societies in which they live. \u00a0Is Jesus telling us that we should own absolutely nothing? No, I don’t think He is, but He is showing us that if we are Christians we should be committed<\/i> to sharing what we have. We should give<\/i> willingly and generously.<\/p>\n

Today, we pray that God gives us generous hearts to help those in need.<\/p>\n

The Ecumenical Council requested our assistance.
\nThere are 12 families (8 with children) and a Comedor Infantil (lunch room), that lost all their belongings during last week’s flooding of Puerto Caimito (Darien). \u00a0We will prepare bundles of help at BALBOA UNION CHURCH on Friday afternoon, to take to them this Saturday morning. If you want to come with us to work that day you are most welcome.<\/p>\n

If not, we need your help gathering clothes, personal hygiene products, kitchen utensils for the comedor (lunch room), backpacks for the kids school and other basic useful stuff from your family and friends and brig it to the church. All monetary donations will be used to buy food at the food bank for them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prayers Concerns<\/h1>\n

Please Pray for Our Brothers and Sisters in Chile<\/p>\n

Please pray for those who were affected by the floods in Panama, as well as those who lost their homes due to the danger of landslides recently.<\/p>\n

Please Pray for Our Brothers and Sisters from Siria and Iraq<\/p>\n

Lord, please remind the world that we are all brothers and sisters and there should be no violence among us, only love and attempts to understand one another.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Up-coming BUC Activities<\/h1>\n

We are currently working on sprucing up Building 773 – the basement, apartment C and other common areas. \u00a0We would be happy to have any volunteers that can assist with this, and any donations towards this work would always be appreciated.<\/p>\n

Council meeting-<\/strong> Saturday-October 17th 1:00 pm BUC\u00a0Office. This will be a meeting of Missions, Property &Management, Christian Education, Worship & Ministry, Membership committee chairs and other council members. \u00a0But all members of the congregation may sit in on the meetings and deliberations. If you have any issues you\u00a0would like the council to consider, these should be present to the Council Secretary before the meeting, so that they\u00a0can be included in the agenda.<\/p>\n

Visit to Fundacion Nueva Vida in Howard-<\/strong>October 18th\u00a0(3rd Sunday of the month) we will be vising the Fundaci\u00f3n Nueva Vida home in Howard – please join us immediately after the service to go on this visit.<\/p>\n
