FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Pentecost God sends us his Spirit

John 16:8
When the Advocate comes,
he will prove the world wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment.

What is the Spirit of God?
It is God’s power that creates new life. It is the power of God who wants to work through human beings. God comes often very softly, but sometimes he comes and surprises us completely; then we can see or feel many signs. Each time God´s Spirit knocks on our life he expresses: I need you.
Many frighten themselves. This is what happened to the prophet Isaiah, when he met the Spirit of God in the temple (Isaiah 6). In this encounter with God Isaiah felt that he is a sinner. But an angel took a piece of charcoal, not to burn but to heal.
God’s Spirit gives us clarity about 3 things: about sin, about righteousness, about judgment.
Woww! These are not simple issues. Actually, they are 3 aspects of one and the same thing. We have to learn to see those three aspects as something totally positive! God’s Spirit is our Comforter. For the Bible justice is not something abstract. It means our relationship with God. Judgement is not something negative: all things come to their proper place.
God’s Spirit leads us to Jesus. We learn to see all things under his perspective. Please, don´t confuse God’s spirit with feelings. The Jewish philosopher Martin Buber has a clear distinction between love and feelings. As human beings we have feelings, but we live in the love. We live; we are alive, because we are beloved by God. His great love for us is our home. Now the whole world is invited to find a place in that great home.
